My second time joining the Motivez application season for the year 2024 proved to be game-changing for my ability to stand out in applications. From CVs and cover letters to interviews, Motivez taught me the key unmissable details to implement when trying to secure a place at a company amidst the competition.
It was my first time attending a Motivez Careers Fair event in November 2024 and it immediately opened doors to opportunities. I learned the importance of true networking, making connections, and building relationships. I took it upon myself to apply that advice on the day, consequently, I made valuable connections as a young professional trying to kickstart my career and also found myself leaping at an opportunity to be part of a 4-week work experience at the largest electricity DNO in the UK, UK Power Networks.
This gave me a chance to apply the STARE technique I learned during the application season, and using this structured approach to ace the interview meant that I impressed both interviewers thus earning a place as an intern for the company with an opportunity to advance onto their apprenticeship scheme.
For 2 weeks, I was based at the headquarters in London where I developed employability skills such as interpersonal communication, presenting, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking by applying them to real-life work scenarios. For the second 2 weeks, I explored the company’s largest sector, the operations department in the South-East region of England where I met many experienced field staff.
By extension, I was involved in a boardroom meeting with Engineers and Project Managers for a project worth millions of pounds being executed in London and this unique experience strengthened my passion to be in a lead position to execute impactful and meaningful philanthropic projects in the future.
